⚡ Brand Pillars 🪨

Let's talk foundations...... Are you really creating with purpose?

What’s up folks, and welcome back to the crunch - Your personal guide through the wild wild world of Creators 🌎.

Today we’re going to talk about pillars, and why you NEED to be be building with them.

To make this write up a little interesting, i’m going to ask you to grab a pen some paper and get ready to think about what you’re doing for a few minutes during this read.

This write up is going to be a little different.

First question i’m going to ask you is this — What are you building on social media?

(Go on write it down)

Now if you’re like me, you probably don’t know how to answer that question properly. I mean unless you clearly have a business which serves a clear purpose, you might be unclear on how to answer this in relation to your social media.

Question 2 — Why do you post ?

I know this question for a moment might feel intrusive, but seriously i’m asking! Now i’m not sure on what your answer may be, or if you’ve really thought about it before but there’s a quote i love that i’m sure you’ll love to.

A life without cause, is a life without effect. No i’m not trying to preach to you on this fine Thursday evening, but let’s adjust this quote with a few tweaks — A post without cause, is a post without effect. Humour me for a moment.

Final question — Who are you?

You’re probably wondering why i’m asking you these questions, and no i don’t want to be all up in your business, but there are Three C’s to growth and they all require you to have a good sense of these things.

So if like me when I first did this then you cross out that “I’m human” from your piece of paper pls!

Here’s a very poor but useful enough example.

So Josiah who are you?

Well i’m an athlete, so I love sports, but I also loves reading books, building communities. Oh and I like to travel, take pictures and spend stupidly on hotels and coffee… Oh and I love good food and let’s be honest bad food too… I just like food ok! Oh yeah I also love fashion, but not really but enough to like good clothes.

As you can see I conveniently didn’t really answer the question but within it all i have clearly identified a few things that I can really build on. these things are what we call Pillars!

You have just successfully identified your Brand Pillars 🎉

What’s a Brand Pillar?

To put simply, Brand pillars are the values and characteristics that make up your brand. They build the fundamental touch points that set you apart from others. Think of it like the mission, and flare of your brand. It helps define what you show to your audience, what you say to them, and how you say it to them.

Let’s look at a few of mine.

  • Athlete

  • Photographer

  • Travel

  • Food

  • Fashion

  • People lover

Now from my answer I can easily identify a few things that are good areas to explore, but I can cut down better.

Well I love people, and I often travel far to see my friends, so nice hotels and lots happening on the road, plus I have to train, so lots of running, activities and sport. Let’s call this — Lifestyle.

I love to shop along the way, showcase my style and you know… Put people on. Let’s call this Fashion

And as i’m always working, whilst travelling and of course creating I have figured out a few hacks that I can use to be efficient on the road. Let’s call this Productivity.

I have successfully created 3 touch points that totally define my brand. All whilst giving me lots of ideas on what type of content I can make whilst being myself, showing my personality, but also attracting brands.

The truth is Lifestyle, Fashion and Productivity are three hot areas that brands are always looking to partner with Creators on. So take some time today and try identify a few things that come together and group them.

If you’re like me and you’re often worried about what to call things, then don’t stress at all. It doesn’t really matter about having a pretty name, but think of the function. usually I will google a few titles that give me an idea of what areas are around and then begin from there. But remember you’re not constrained to any particular titles, so if you decide that one aspect of yourself is heavily to do with revising, tutoring and learning then your pillar might be called - Education.

In short don’t over think it, just map out a rough few and have it noted down.

When you’ve done this, then the game becomes easier. Map out a few ideas, create a mood board with a few creators you’ve seen cover some of these areas and work off that.

You will begin to have more clarity in what you create — You will have a cause.

Now what might the effects look like?

Well it’s simple — Growth.

Pillars are great because they assist you in the key things you need to do in order to grow. Remember those 3C’s I mentioned? Well the three key metrics to good growth are;

  • Consistency

  • Collaboration

  • Creativity

Have good foundational understanding of who you are, and what you’re building, gives you the basis of building a good house — A brand if you wish, that can withstand the shortness of trends, all whilst building a strong community and message. From here you can begin to double down on fresh content unique to you.

And that’s the crunch kids.

Next week I might give you the lowdown on how to equip yourselves for a high performing brand geared to attracting brands, but for now, I want to see you up the game on the content — Then maybe we can talk 😉

Damn he’s done it again.

Stay creating Folks!
